First Icelandic Lambs Are Finally Here!

 Emory gave birth to a lovely set of Icelandic twins in the wee morning hours of April 15th.

 Hidaway Farms Moonstone, black spotted ram lamb, was the first born.

 Hidaway Farms White Diamond, white patterned, was second in line.

First time mom is very protective! We are so happy they are here and healthy.

We are over half way with our lambing this year. 5 ewes left to go--1 Shetland and 4 Icelandics.

We now have 6 ram lambs and 4 ewe lambs.

Lamb Update

 Hidaway Farms Cora delivered two ram lambs on April 8th. The boy above is a black gulmoget named Clay.

 Clay's twin brother, Coal is pictured here. He was smaller than his older brother.

 24 hours later, Hidaway Farms Emmalee  delivered a moorit ewe lamb, Emerald and her brother out in the pasture on nice green grass.

 Emerald's moorit gulmoget brother, Jasper. This was Emmalee's first time lambing and it was textbook perfect. At 1:45 pm water bubble emerged. At 2:00 ewe lamb was born. At 2:05 ewe lamb was standing and trying to nurse. At 2:10 ram lamb was born!

Protective Shetland

 On April 7th, Katie found Cinderella with a newly born ewe lamb. Upon trying to take pictures...she hid her from me.

 No matter how hard I tried...she would move and hide her.

 This is a second time mom that is not a very friendly ewe.

 There she is...Hidaway Farms Topaz.

 "Really?"

Topaz is almost identical to her grandmother's ram lamb from the last post. I do believe this girl will end up being grey because she appears to have sugar lips.


More lambs were born a couple of hours ago. First time mom, Cora, delivered 2 ram lambs and is doing a great job!

Good Friday Lamb

 Rare Find Farm Heartthrob gave us a handsome ram lamb with white flashing on Good Friday. To continue our theme, we would like to introduce to you...Hidaway Farms Slate.

 What a cutie! Mom loves him so much. She is a super mother!

First Lambs of 2015

 Ivy was the only Shetland we didn't have on the calendar with a due date. Her udder has been developing more than any of the other sheep over the past 3 weeks. We figured she would be first and when she lambed last night on March 28th, we knew that she was bred the day we put the ram in with the ewes. Never had that happen before.

 This year the theme will be Gems & Minerals. So we introduce to you Hidaway Farms Granite (white speckled) ram lamb and Black Pearl, ewe lamb.

 This little guy was actually born 2nd to his sister. Mom was a first time lamber and she did fabulously well!

 We asked for advice on the Shetland page on Facebook in regard to his markings. It was suggested that he is white/black Ilget.

I think he would like to be a rodeo clown.

Looking for more lambs in the middle of the week. We are off to a great start!

 Since 2010 we have had a nesting Cooper's Hawk ( I think) pair.

My favorite Icelandic, Moonpie! She loves me. As we were leaving the pasture, she came after us. She usually does.
